Achievements include:

  • Successfully  supervising 35 PhDs on aspects of football history and culture.
  • Raising funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and other sources for 20 fully-funded PhDs

Media

The IFI team, as leading experts in many fields, have made innumerable contributions in the international media.  They have worked as historical consultants for a significant number of football-related documentaries, including:

Conferences

The IFI team have been invites to be keynote speakers at many internationalconferences around the world. They have also organised a number of major conferences, including:

  • The world’s first conference on women’s football in 2005, supported by UEFA. This was held to coincide with the 2005 UEFA Women’s Championship.    
  • In 2013 IFI organised a highly successful international conference to mark the 150th anniversary of the Football Association, which attracted over one hundred scholars from around the world. Papers from the conference were published in a special double issue of the journal Soccer and Society.
  • The First World Football Culture Summit, in partnership with the Chinese Football Museum, Zibo, China.

Impact

IFI has made a number of major contributions to successful Impact case studies. IFI has also advised and worked directly on the development of a major new football and sports museums around the world.
